DO 178C Requirements

RTCA DO 178C Requirements

Solution Concepts understands that requirements must be compliant with the platform to be certified, where the system processes of ARP 4754B define the system requirements, which affect DO 178C software requirements and ARP4761A define the Functional Design Assurance Levels (FDAL) and the Design Assurance Levels (DAL) levels of the aircraft and sub systems in the aircraft.

Incorrect or Inaccurate System requirements can cause DO 178C project delays.

Contact Solution Concepts, if you need help with system and software requirements.

How can System Requirements affect software requirements?

System Requirements must define the hardware and software aspects of the platform, information such as hardware with System on Chip (SoC), which can also be part of an Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware solution. The software aspects of the system requirements define the Input and Output (IO) data buses or signals, as well memory types, processor architectures and very high level software overview of software and software interfaces, as well as environmental information for the hardware requirements.

Software may be Bare Metal (BM) or Real Time Operation System (RTOS), most that support ARINC 663 will be Hypervisor type 1 or 2 based RTOS with the ability to implement Time and Space partioning.

If you need help with defining system requirements or want to discuss the benefits of BM or RTOS , contact us.

Requirement Tooling

It’s important to chose Requirement Tools that are suitable for both System, Hardware and Software.

It’s very important that the chosen Requirement Tool allows system requirement collaboration with the system, hardware and software engineers to ensure that changes may be reviewed by all, before acceptance. (Always involve the Quality Assurance Team).
